Learning
technologies refers to the revolutionized techniques, tools and instruments
that are incorporated in the learning process to enhance easier imparting of
skills and competency. There are many technological inventions and innovations
that have been brought up within the classroom setup to ensure that all
learners or students of all categories can have knowledge and skills imparted
in them effectively.
One of the technologies is the use of a
backboard, projector, smart-board, among others. The purpose of the technology
in learning is to ensure that concepts that are being taught in class have been
relayed to the students in the most convenient manner possible (Selwyn, 2016).
Some of the technology is used to facilitate the teachers to be able to
illustrate or demonstrate concepts to the students so that they can understand
more. There are different types of learners that can be targeted through the
use of the technology (Henriksen,
Mishra & Fisser, 2016). Although most of the learning is
done through the talking, some of the students would prefer to get the
information visually since they have a developed photographic memory.
The introduction
of technology in the classroom is likely to make activities easier as well as
carry out the basic actions in the most convenient manner. Over time,
technology has taken over most of the activities including in the classroom (Williams, Lewis, Boyle, Brown& Holt, 2015).
The teachers and students likewise are supposed to master the skills of using
technology in order to keep abreast of the developing society. As opposed to the traditional face-to-face
interaction in the classroom, new devices and systems have been incorporated
into the classes and the students do not have to necessarily attend classes (Muller, 2015).
Electronic learning (E-Learning) support programs and equipment have been
effectively developed and students can be able to access teaching programs
while still away from the traditional classrooms.
The concept of globalization has
tremendously affected the way view the learning process. The use of social
media for instance, has revolutionized the way learning processes have been
done (Bulman&Fairlie, 2016).
With globalization coupled with technology, students from any part of the world
can be able to access any learning process from any part of the world as far as
they have devices or equipment that can be able to support the processes that
are needed. The zeal by many students
and the people in general to seek more knowledge in education has created a great
springboard for the development of technology in the learning processes.
With time, the learners have been able
to become more active as opposed to the traditional methods of learning where a
learner was just a passive recipient of knowledge and information. The teacher or the tutor does not become the
center of attention. Teachers are more of facilitators in the earning
process. There are many sources of
information for the students. Teachers act to guide the students on the most
effective ways they can use to get reliable knowledge and information. Technology gives the students a higher
capacity to be able to interact with information and form their own decisions
independently with the guidance of teachers. Technology has been considered as
one of the factors that encourage and motivate the students to learn more. It
enhances the self-esteem of the students and makes them feel excited when going
to school. Because of this kind of attitude among the students, they are likely
to learn more.
